In a recent webinar hosted by Velocity Advisory Group, President Dan Silvert and Partner Brooke Page-Thompson dove into the topic of workplace burnout. Burnout is a syndrome that the World Health Organization has classified as an “occupational phenomenon” resulting from not being able to manage chronic workplace stress. As workplace demands and expectations evolve, stress and burnout are becoming more and more prevalent, underscoring how critical it is for employers to proactively prioritize employee well-being.

In this webinar, Dan and Brooke discussed:

  • The three key indicators of burnout: overwhelming exhaustion, cynicism and detachment from your job, and a feeling of ineffectiveness
  • Common misconceptions about burnout (hint: changing jobs may not do the trick!)
  • Causes of workplace stress and burnout, both external and internal
  • The role of mindset and how “climbing the ladder” can contribute to stress
  • Ways to reduce your work stress

We also asked participants to share their experiences, and the responses to our questions showed that many participants had fatigue or exhaustion, a negative attitude, and detachment or resistance to work in just the last month. Participants also shared how they define burnout and some strategies they’ve tried to reduce work stress.
